The State of Utah provides a business search facility that enables you to search for businesses that have been registered with them because they are either located in Utah or doing business in Utah.

They provide information about these businesses which is publicly available information. You can search their business database by:

• Business name
• Entity number
• Executive name

Search by business name

The Utah business search database can be searched business name.

The search results will produce a list of businesses that match the name searched. The list includes information about the business including business name, status, type and city.

You can view more information about the businesses listed by clicking on either the business name or details in the right-hand column which are both colored in blue. This will display the available information for the business including:

• Business name
• Entity name
• Company type
• Address
• State of origin
• Registered agent details
• Status
• Renew by
• Status description
• Employment verification
• Registration date
• Least renewed
• NAICS code
• NAICS title

You can also view filed documents ($2 fee applies each), purchase certificate of existence ($12 fee applies) and view the management team ($1 fee applies).

Search by entity number

If you know the business’ entity number you can search the Utah database by this.

The results should list a single record as the entity number is unique to the business. The list displays the business name, status, type and city. You can see more information about the business by clicking on either text in blue – business name or details. This allows you to see all the publicly available information about the business such as address, registered agent details and key dates. Search by executive name

The Utah business database can be searched by executive name, but this search is charged a processing fee of $3. You can search by last name, multiple names, partial name or exact name.

The results will show a list of businesses that have executives with a name that matches your search criteria. You can see more information about the businesses by clicking on the business name or details in the right-hand column. The business record contains a broad range of information such as state as origin, registered agent details, address and status description, plus more as listed above in search by business name.

How to register a business in Utah?

When you are starting a business in Utah you will need to register it and the below steps can help you to do this:

1. The first step is to decide what you are going to call your business and you should do a name search to check the availability of that name on the State of Utah’s business search database.
2. You will then need to select what business entity type you are setting up as this will be needed to register your business.
3. After deciding the above you can register your business with the Division of Corporations which you can do through the OneStop Online Business Registration website. This will register your business with the Utah State Tax Commission, Utah Labor Commission, Utah Department of Commerce, Utah Department of Workforce and Utah Department of Environmental Quality which will provide you with all the necessary licenses and account numbers, plus any information needed to get business licenses from your local municipality.
